Welcome to Frederick, MD!
Frederick is located along the Civil War Trail in Maryland, between the Gettysburg and Antietam National Battlefields. As a result, several attractions found in this area boast a Civil War theme. The National Museum of Civil War Medicine depicts military medical history through a variety of exhibits, artifacts and manuscripts. The Monocacy National Battlefield is a popular historic site, as it witnessed the 1864 battle that turned out to be the Confederates' last attempt to move the war towards Washington, D.C. Today the site features hiking trails, a visitor center and a variety of historical programs that are held throughout the year. Outdoor adventure is found just north of Frederick at Gambrill State Park, where camping, fishing and picnicking are popular pastimes. Every September the city is abuzz during the nine-day Great Frederick Fair, which features commercial exhibits, agricultural events, a demolition derby and live performances by renowned music groups.

Site of the 'Battle That Saved Washington,' Monocacy National Battlefield provides visitors with the opportunity to view where the Confederacy last attempted to move north.
